it's a fight for second between republican establishment favorite marco rubio and iowa caucus winner ted cruz.sot ted cruz the only campaign that can beat donald trump is this campaign. ben carson and john kasich were at the bottom of the pack. they've vowed to march on to super tuesday... the democrats are also focused on tuesday but first south carolina. sot hillary clinton "why is there one standard for me and not for everybody else?" hillary clinton fired up during a cnn town hall after a federal judge ruled the former secretary of state's top aides should testify over her use of private email. but ahead of the democratic primary in the palmetto state, the focus was on african- americans who make up half of the electorate. sot bernie sanders we must sustain and strengthen the historically black colleges and universities sot clinton racism along with economic issues, educational issues, and all the rest, have to be addressed. clinton has campaign events in south carolina today, sanders

the republicans are taking part in a voter summit hosted by trump's fox news nemesis megyn kelly?trump declined the invite citing a scheduling conflict. kenneth moton, abc news washington. voters were out in full force for the nevada caucuses ... which meant volunteers were dealing with large crowds at some sites. and as kolo 8 news now's matt vaughan reports ... workers were overwhelmed by the turnout at reed high school. volunteers were simply not prepared for the number of voters that showed up last night ... in what seemed like a record turnout. but before getting to that ... let's take another quick look at the results from yesterday's caucus. ... donald trump was able to hang on to a commanding lead ... snatching up almost half of the votes here in the silver state. this is trump's third victory in the race for the white house. the precincts finished reporting just after 2 o'clock this morning ... again with trump the clear leader. it was a tight race for second ... with marco rubio edging out ted cruz. rubio has yet to score

as for voter turnout ... there was a line that wrapped around reed high school last night. people started lining up hours before doors even opened. the volume became too much for the six volunteers to handle ... which left a lot of people outside braving the cold waiting to get indoors. reed high school is the largest caucus location in washoe county. the site coordinators were only prepared for about 600 voters ... but we're told more than 12-hundred showed up. it didn't take long before they were running out of ballots... and time. karen: there are not enough places to poll, there's too many at reed high school and not enough people to run the business. tom: we knew our biggest bottleneck was getting people signed in and getting them through the door as quickly as possible. more ballots had to be printed ... and eventually the line was moved inside. fortunately ... organizers were able to call on more volunteers to try and get people through faster. once they showed up... the lines died down. there were just a handful of people in line

some interesting stats are coming out of the entrance poll results ... which point to strong support for trump in nevada. almost 70-percent of nevada republican caucus attendees said they made up their mind more than a week ago, while roughly 30- percent said they decided which candidate to pick in the last week. also ... six in 10 caucus- goers said they prefer someone from outside the political establishment. a woman was hospitalized after an accident at the intersection of sparks boulevard and the i-80 eastbound off ramp. it happened around 10 last night. sparks police say the woman ran a red light and hit a mini-van. she had to be extricated from her vehicle and was taken to renown with unknown injuries. the intersection was shut down for a few hours after the crash but has since reopened. one person has been arrested and is now facing felony charges in connection with the car chase that started in carson city earlier this week and ended at the grand sierra resort.

patrol says they found stolen sporting goods and alcohol inside 23- year-old dominic gonzalez's abandoned car. he's facing a felony charge for possession of stolen property and several other charges. police say it all started monday afternoon in carson city, when gonzalez and another man allegedly stole alcohol from a liquor store. the two reportedly drove up to reno -- where n-h-p began pursuing gonzalez after he hit another car near meadowood mall. a high speed chase with the suspects ended at the g-s-r. gonzalez was quickly arrested-- while the other man was seen getting into a maroon car, with silver rims. he's described as white, last seen wearing a a black shirt, or zipper pullover, and blue jeans. the carson city sheriff's office says this vehicle is linked to a carson city burglary that happened on february 11th. the car is described as a oldsmobile alero-- four door sedan, between the years of 1999 and 2004. if you recognize this car

the burglary call the carson city sheriff's office. 38-year-old jesse michael whitlock of ohio has pleaded guilty to fraud for illegally collecting unemployment benefits from the state of nevada... while in jail. authorities say whitlock committed the theft in 2010 and 2011. as part of his plea, whitlock will pay back more than 13-thousand dollars to the state's unemployment department. he will be sentenced in june. a new ordinance to merge the truckee meadows fire protection district and the sierra fire protection district could save tax payers thousands of dollars a year. according to washoe county commissioners, the merger of the two fire districts could save up to 26-thousand dollars a year because it'll end the need for two audits, financial statements, and two budgets. however, during the board of county commisioners meeting yesterday, one person voiced concern-- saying the merger could also cause longer response times. the second reading of this ordinance, will be on march 8th.

the c-d-c is now investigating new reports of sexual transmission of the zika virus. they say they're investigating 14 cases in all, and that several of them involve pregnant women. the c-d-c adds the new

way zika spreads. however, the most likely way to be infected with zika is through a mosquito bite. zika has been confirmed in 23 u-s states and the district of columbia. and the world health organization says up to four million people will be infected in the next year. the american chocolate maker 'mars' has announced a recall in 55 countries after plastic was found in one of it's products. the recall includes millions of mars, snickers and milky way chocolate bars produced in the netherlands. the company said mars, snickers and milky way bars with best buy dates between june and october 2016 should not be eaten. celebration and variety candy packs are also being recalled. heart disease is the leading cause of death for people in the united states. and while it's well known that healthy behaviors are good for our overall health, sometimes it can be difficult to make necessary lifestyle changes to boost heart health. experts say eating a healthy diet, exercising, consuming alcohol in moderation, and not smoking are the main keys to preventing

the incident happened monday. as crews were trying to rescue people from the home...they were being shot at from the second floor. police say buckner had a history of drug abuse. his youngest sister-- age 6-- was hospitalized after the fire but later died. show surveillance photos we're getting a look at surveillance photos showing michigan shooting suspect-- jason dalton-- inside a gun store just hours before police say he went on a shooting rampage in kalamazoo. six people were killed in the shooting spree. and as the initial shock of this tragedy starts to subside....support for the lives lost have reached far beyond west michigan. erica francis shows us how people are coming together to rally around one business where 4 people were killed. "i just don't think it crossed people's mind that cracker barrel would be hit like it was" leaving a community and restaurant, hurting. "it's not fair that what happened here is effecting their business" beltz decided to help out and invite a few friends to help boost business. "then, we decided lets add the prayer element, got a few

that was erica farncis reporting in california... a carmax employee was killed during a test drive after the driver crashed into a tree. it happened in ontario. police say the 28 year old driver was high on drugs at the time of the crash. witnesses say they saw a corvette traveling at a high rate of speed moments before it crashed into a tree. the carmax employee was rushed to the hospital, but died from his injuries. the driver was arrested and charged with vehiclular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence of drugs. and terrifying moments for two window washers in new york when they got stranded 65 floors up! their scaffold stalled as they were working. firefighters say the scaffold was stable, but mechanics couldn't get it moving again. instead, firefighters

workers inside the building. fortunately neither of the workers were hurt. anim we're getting a look at the moments a semi collided with a train in northern minnesota. check out this police dashcam. in the video, you see the truck driver pull-off after a routine police inspection, then onto the train tracks. with rail-crossing lights flashing and the train's horn blaring, the driver continued straight into the train's path. police say the train dragged the truck a quarter mile down the tracks. the truck driver only suffered a minor cut to his eye. it's been a popular downtown reno spot for ice skating and just hanging out. but now the reno city ocuncil is considering a new use for the city plaza space... we will introduce you to a ten year old boy looking for a big brother. it's estimated to be 8- feet tall, and weighs about 60-thousand pounds. parts of the road will need to be repaired because of damage the boulder caused. those repairs won't be finished, until the end of the week. so, one lane will remain closed, and minor traffic delays are expected. ### it's a busy day for development on the reno city council.... two new distilleries are looking for alcohol manufacturing licences. and a major project could be started right across the street from city hall.... kolo 8 news now's rebecca kitchen is live with the details.... good morning dave and amanda... depending on how long you've lived here you know this property across from city hall as a couple different things... either the sight of the former mapes hotel...the area where the rink on the river use to be.. or as it's properly known... city plaza.... ... in today's meeting the council will discuss asking developers to come up with new plans for the area.

plaza back in '96.... and the last real talks of development were back in 2007... you can see plans on your screen here... they are looking to develop just the east side of the plaza... and keep the rink portion... according to a city of reno staff report... they are not looking to define a single project right now... really what they are looking for is a request for qualifications.... basically they are looking for developers to present plans to the city.... the only requirements... according to the staff report.. are as follows.... there has to be parking for city employees and customers... that can probably be accomplished through renovating the parking garage attached to city

purchased last year... there also has to be space for ground floor retail and restaurants along the river... office and commercial space and finally... a place for public gathering... that would probably be on the south virginia side of the plaza.... something that is not included in the requirements.. but some people are calling for a covered roller rink to be put in place.. just like in the 2007 plans.... the canopy would allow for shade and could potentially serve as as performance venue. if all goes according to plan.... we could start seeing plans presented as early as the end of may... as a side note... another plaza is on the agenda today... the siegal group will present their plans to either lease of sale a portion of the west street plaza for redevelopment of the truckee lane building.. where the jungle and tap house reside. there's a long list of littles waiting for mentors at big brothers big sisters of northern nevada. it's time to introduce you to a couple of them that i just met... jimmy and jahzir are looking for a big brother to have some fun with... it was a scrappy game of tackle basketball between these two brothers. this is
